How to use
All three books are PDF e-books. Below is how to open them, read them on different devices, print them if you need to, and use the dialogues and exercises in the books.
Downloading and opening
Once your payment succeeds, you can go straight to the download page from the payment confirmation page. We also send the download link to the email address you entered on the payment page.
Each book is one PDF file of about 5–6 MB, small enough to download on mobile data. If a download is interrupted by an unstable connection, just tap download again; browsers that support resuming will pick up where they left off.
Once downloaded, the file opens in any PDF reader: a web browser on your computer, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview on macOS, Files or Books on iPhone/iPad, or Google Drive or another PDF reader on Android.
Reading on different devices
The pages are 8×10-inch portrait pages, most comfortable to read as whole pages on a tablet or computer.
On a phone you can turn it sideways, or pinch to zoom to half a page wide. The dialogues and exercises are real text, not images, so they stay sharp when you zoom in and you can search them in your reader.
You can keep the same PDF on several of your own devices.
If you want to print
This is a full-color reading edition, not a print-ready file for a commercial printer. When printing at home, choose "Fit to page" or "Scale to fit paper"; it prints on either A4 or Letter paper, with a small white margin around the edges.
Printing only the pages you need saves paper: for example, just the exercise pages of one lesson, or the answer key pages at the back of the book.
The color illustrations still show the characters and their actions clearly when printed in black and white, but in color the situations are easier to tell apart.
How to practice with the books
The first time through, read the dialogue and mark the places where you get stuck or where information is missing. The second time, cover Lin's lines and say the next line yourself. The third time, change a time, an object or a person and practice again; when the information changes, the answer has to change with it.
Practicing alone: read the first line on the partner's role card aloud, pause, record your own response, then compare it with the answers at the back of the book. Practicing in pairs: one person responds according to the role card without giving away the answer in advance; swap roles for the second round.
When checking your answers, look at what your response does rather than whether it matches word for word: any version that is grammatically sound, clear in meaning and consistent with the facts is acceptable.
What the books do not include
There is currently no accompanying audio, video, online course, web exercises or app. Where the books mention recording, they mean recording your own responses on your phone and playing them back to check; the books themselves come with no recordings.
